HOSTRAT / THE WEBSITE FIELD GUIDE

Getting started

The first questions are usually the useful ones.

A plain-language starting point for domains, hosting, website projects and the guides on HostRat.

01

Are a domain and hosting the same thing?

No. A domain is a name; hosting provides the environment that serves your site. The services may be bought together, but their account ownership, renewal and configuration can be separate. Keep a record of the provider responsible for each.

02

What should I prepare for a website project?

Start with the audience, the main task, the pages you expect to need and the person who will approve them. List any existing content or systems that must move. The website-brief tool turns those notes into a file you can keep.

03

Does HostRat sell hosting or manage old accounts?

This publication offers guides and a browser-based planning tool. It does not operate the former billing system, collect account passwords or provide access to prior hosting services. For an existing service, use your own provider records and verified support channel.
