HOSTRAT / THE WEBSITE FIELD GUIDE

Hosting basics

The dashboard is only part of the service.

Understand which controls a hosting panel provides and which responsibilities remain elsewhere.

01

Map the jobs you need to do

List the tasks you expect to perform: update a site, manage a database, review logs, restore a backup or change an email setting. Ask the host which are available in its panel and which require support.

02

Use access that matches the role

A content editor may not need control of billing or the entire server. Ask how separate users and permissions work. Keep administrator access limited to the people who need it, and use the provider’s supported account-protection options.

03

Check the exit and recovery routes

Find out how to export the website and how a restore is requested. A familiar dashboard name does not establish that every feature is included in your plan. Keep the provider’s documentation with the account record.
